Creative shuts Marina lifestyle concept store
CREATIVE Technology has closed its downtown lifestyle concept store at the Marina Square mall. A notice indicating the closure has been seen on the shopfront, a shopper told BT.
A spokesman for the MP3 player maker confirmed the store closure, but declined BT’s request for comments about the closure, which leaves Creative with two retail outlets in Singapore – one at Plaza Singapura, and another at the company’s headquarters at the International Business Park in Jurong East.
Creative, which last month unwrapped a new computing chip technology dubbed Zii, has been suffering from declining sales. For its second quarter ended Dec 31, 2008, revenue fell 41 per cent to US$155.7 million. It also suffered a net loss of US$32.4 million for Q2, the company’s biggest loss in 11 quarters.
Chief operating officer Craig McHugh said in the Q2 results announcement last month that the company was ‘evaluating the structure of our field organisations’ to slash operating expenses.
The Marina Square outlet has a floor space of around 208 square metres – or just under the total floor space of two regular five-room HDB apartments. Creative had chosen to set up shop there to tap the wide gamut of shoppers that throng the mall, including local shoppers, tourists and office workers in the city area.
Opened in March 2006, the Marina Square store was conceived as a lifestyle concept store with demonstration booths for the company’s latest MP3 players, headphones, speakers and other high-tech wares. It also served as a drop-off point for customers who need their products serviced.
Besides retail outlets, Creative also operates online stores across a number of countries, including Singapore, where shoppers can buy Creative products over the Internet.

That is sad. Creative does make good products and I have had great experiences with their products.
its really saddening y they hav to close down marina square..as part of the staff working under creaitve @ marina square..i realli miss working with wonderful colleagues and i realli miss that shop..its a pity..saddening…

yah..we are retrenched and especially at this time with recession on . . its hard to find a job.. a total of abt 15 staff were being retrenched from ps and ms. . hai..
