1,000 apply for 300 Sentosa IR vacancies
PLANS to fill its 10,000 vacancies by next year are on track, but filling some of the casino and theme park management jobs at Resorts World at Sentosa has been more challenging.
Said the Integrated Resort’s (IR) head of human resources and training Seah-Khoo Ee Boon: “For things like running the rides and shows, we don’t have so much of that in Singapore, so these positions are harder to fill with Singaporeans.”
But junior level positions were not a problem as the resort would conduct training for those jobs, she added.
The IR received over 1,000 applications for its 300 vacancies offered at North West Community Development Council’s (CDC) job fair yesterday, which drew 4,800 jobseekers for the 3,000 vacancies available.
It was the first time Resorts World was taking part in a job fair since it began recruiting last year, and it plans to take part in at least two more with North West this year.
The jobseekers’ biggest concern? That Sentosa was too far from their homes. “So we’re trying to let everyone know that’s not true, that we will provide shuttle services from Vivo City,” said Ms Seah-Khoo.
Other employers yesterday too got feedback about distance issues — a sign that jobseekers remain somewhat picky. Sales manager John Tjia from NTUC Income, which offered 200 financial consultant positions, said some were also unsure about taking on commission-based jobs.
More than 1,000 jobseekers had turned up an hour after the doors opened, some of whom were dressed in officewear.
Executive Karen Liew, while still employed, expects to be laid off by the middle of this year. “I know it’s coming so it’s time I got ready for the worst,” said Ms Liew, who made use of her enforced unpaid leave to visit the job fair.
North West district mayor Teo Ho Pin announced that the CDC would spend $1.6 million this year on local assistance schemes, up $500,000 from last year. The next job fair in June will cater to PMETjob seekers.

i am working as a dealer in casino rad, raddision hotel, kathmandu nepal since 2008 jan 1. So i request for any vacant position for me
I lost my job 3 months ago but knowing it’s coming I applied for an IR position prior to retrench.
I even got 2 interviews offer after 2 months wait, But lately the IR I applied for job keeps calling me to ask for my birth date, as there’s no record!!!
I tracked the calling nos after receiving the 2nd time for same data. (to see how many calls to receive) Then a new friend at an e2i workshop said, try test them with some info checking. I was surprised they even have my aptitude test score result w/o informing, juz give my NRIC. But they called back 5 times to ask for my birth dates, then hung up. Another acquaintance at e2i workshop said, knowing I’m 50 yrs old but “S’porean” status quo, the IR cant reject me if I meet the basic qualification becoz of obligation to government to hire local first. So the HR strategy is possibly to irritate me with the same question every few days/weeks, then perhaps I give up getting frustrated. Now I am getting worry seeing so many foreigners asking for jobs at IR here.
If the more experienced “out of jobs locals” were correct, well if you are younger than 40’s, although from Philippines or Nepal, dun worry you get your jobs chance at the IRs. But you may have to wait for some time, after the exercise to frustrate the older locals is done with.
After all they got the time, the economy still slow so no need to expedite the hiring.
